Craps is all about rolling a pair of dice. The player
rolling the dice is called the shooter. The dice have
six sides each so when you roll them, you are going to
get anything between 2 and 12. Some numbers appear more
often than others. It’s all about what numbers can be
used to add up to a certain number. For instance, lots
of combinations will add up to a 7 or 8. But only one
combination adds up to either a 2 or a 12.
Statistically, 7 is the most common number to come up.
It only wins if it comes up on the come-out roll.
When playing craps online, the screen just shows half of
the table. At a land-based casino, the table is twice as
long and the other half is the same set-up. This is so
more people can make bets. The shooter places a bet and
a fader bets against them. The shooter rolls the dice
and if he gets a 7 or 11, he immediately wins. If it is
a 2, 3, or 12, the shooter loses. Whichever the case may
be, the shooter can continue to roll the dice. A 4, 5,
6, 8, 9, or 10 is the shooter’s point. If they roll
their point before they roll a 7, they win. If they roll
a 7, or “sevens out”, before they roll their point, they
lose. If the player wins, they continue to roll the
dice, otherwise they pass the dice to the next player.
Confused yet? Don’t worry, once you roll the dice a
couple of times, its easy.
In craps, the dice have no memory. They don't remember
how they landed on the last roll. They don't care if
they haven't shown a 7 in the last 50 rolls or even a
million rolls. The odds of any number showing remain
constant and are never influenced by what occurred
previously.
There are three things you need to decide before playing
craps. The first is whether you make place bets or come
bets. Then you need to decide whether you will play the
don’t or the dos. After that, decide how much you will
bet at one time. Decide ahead of time how much you would
like to win, and how much you are willing to lose.
You will need a solid knowledge of how the game is
played, as well as a solid strategy. This is not a game
that you should try playing without knowing anything
about it.
